Second Annual Open Studio Week Kicks Off on June 3rdMonday, June 3rd marks the beginning of Studio in a School’s second annual Open Studio Week. During this week, Studio will bring together NYC public school students and teachers, Studio artist/instructors, community members, cultural institutions, and world renowned artists to highlight the importance of arts education. The festivities kick off on Monday morning, with a special visit by artist Mark di Suvero to a Studio class at Manhattan’s Neighborhood School. On Wednesday, Studio and Asia Society will host the opening ceremony for the exhibition Inspired by Lin Tianmiao: Works by New York City Students at the Asia Society. Open Studio closes with a bang on Friday, with a morning Studio class visit at PS 139 in Brooklyn with artist Julie Mehretu. On Friday evening students, friends, family, and community members will convene at Hunter College’s East Harlem Art Gallery for the opening reception for Studio’s final exhibition, Portraits: My City, Myself. The exhibition will feature over 140 artworks by students from 44 schools across the five boroughs; we hope you will be able to join us for the celebration on Friday, 5-7 PM.
